As part of the HBA's partnership with the Construction Workforce Development Alliance (CWDA) we help support the next generation of construction professionals by sponsoring two middle school construction summer camps at Grand Rapids Community College MTEC each summer. Summer camp is eligible to students entering grades 6 – 9.  Students get hands-on experience working in different construction crafts - carpentry, concrete, masonry, and ironwork.  The CWDA provides a half day field trip experience taking students out onto a commercial construction job site and a residential construction job site, where they take a tour, engage in hands-on activities in the field, and speak with construction professionals about the work they do every day. Students also leave with a hand-crafted product they make during the camp. Middle school construction summer camp sells out every summer.
